Mine comes in at 4 longer than half the width of my cruzer which is good. You wont notice any difference in handling on the highway as long as you have proper tongue weight at least 10 and not more than 15 of the trailer weight. The longer tongue reduces tongue weight.

But I am running an old flatbed trailer. I have heard some rumblings about having a longer tongue 5 when towing behind a motorhome so it doesnt hit when you are backing up.
