From my research I am looking at placing behind my 10 Bobs Machine Shop hydraulic jack plate as there is lots of room for it and I have a nice flat spot on the hull. Most if the transom mount transducers with the Garminloranceraymarine units have adjustable brackets on the mount.
I have installed two of these and have never had to adjust them. And the spectrum patch kit gelcoat repair makes filling a he pretty easy if you replace ir so decide you need to move it. A thru hull mount transducer would be.

No transducer should be in that location for any speed faster than idle. The transom step is forward of it. All you get is cavitation in that location.
It needs to be near where the livewell intake is and the transducer itself needs to be partially BELOW the bottom of the hull. Position Your Mounting Plate then Make Drill Marks. To me the best position is at least half an inch from the bottom of the boat.

I was looking at mounting plates on the Cabelas web page that allows you to keep all holes in the boat above the water level but the idea of paying 30 bucks for an 18X12 piece of plastic just doesn. You can install your transducer under the pontoon in a location thats close to your console. On the back of pontoon tubes are brackets that are an excellent location for transducers to stay near the monitor.
